This one's from me to you .....

So now it's my turn on the #cutandalterfoqgiveaway but I find it so hard to write about myself ...... Let's start with what I am - I am a daughter, sister, wife, mother, quilter, educator, one time home educator (we did it voluntarily for years ;)), reader, crocheter and lots more things beside.

I have been a longarm quilter for 5 years now and have been quilting for others for 4 1/2 of those.  In 2018 I became a Handi Quilter Educator and I have found my passion - I love teaching.  Hopefully classes will be up and running again soon and I am also going to be teaching patchwork and quilting on domestic sewing machines aswell.  I give talks and run workshops for Clubs and Guilds and I have to say that I love being in this quilting community.  I get to sew, chat and teach like minded people, generally with coffee and cake thrown in.

Festival of Quilts Celebration Giveaway :: Pinhole Quilting

Day 4 of giveaways as part of the #cutandalterfoqgiveaway and they just keep coming!

Pinhole Quilting are the distributor of Handi Quilting longarm quilting machines for the UK and beyond, along with all the accessories and Glide thread that  a quilter could ever want!

One of the biggest disappointments for me about Festival of Quilts 2020 being postponed was the fact that I wouldn't see Sarah's gallery.  You have probably already seen her work - one of her pieces was the main promotional pic for the show!  The great news is that the gallery will be hung at the 2021 show so we do get a chance to see it after all. 

I have long admired her work, both big and small, and to see it hung in its own gallery was going to be a treat.  The fact I could also see Sarah was also going to be good!  Aswell as making all types of quilts and smaller items, Sarah gives talks and workshops which I am looking forward to attending once they are up and running again.

step-by-step Texture Quilting :: A Book Review AND a Birthday Giveaway!

For the last couple of weeks Tuesday has been a news day around here and today's no exception.  The news to share with you today is that it's my birthday!!  I am having a wonderful day so far and in the spirit of celebrating I am having a giveaway ..... but first the review - you'll want to know what's up for grabs in the giveaway won't you?!

So anyone who has read any of my posts in the past will know of my love for quilting.  Whilst computer assisted quilting has taken up much of my time over the last 6 month my first love is free motion quilting.  And you'll also know I love books so imagine how happy a book about quilting would make me!!

My latest book to review from Search Press is step-by-step Texture Quilting by Christina Cameli.  This was released last year by stash books, an inprint of C&T Publishing, and is available in the UK and Europe from here.  This book covers both free motion and walking foot designs and is a really good addition to any library.

What do I like the most about this book?  Hands down it is the photography.  Quilting is such a visual art and to see great photos of the designs, and also comparisons of the design with just a little tweak, is what really sold this book to me.

The book is divided into three main sections:  Organic Textures, Geometric Textures and Textural Fusion.  Each design within these sections has been photographed in real life and there is also a line drawing showing the stitch path.  I find both of these so helpful in learning a new design.  You can also use them for finger tracing a design that is new to you to start building up that all important muscle memory.

Aswell as a standard, written contents list at the front of the book, there is also a great page opposite that shows the designs in the book and gives the page number they are on.

And, instead of a standard index at the back of the book, there is a photo index - genius!

About the author:

Christina Cameli is an enthusiastic quilting teacher and nurse-midwife.  After being introduced to quilting by her grandmother, she learned free-motion quilting and over the next decade began teaching classes and writing books.  She lives with her children in Portland, Oregon.

What a celebration ....

my 100th blog post, a finish and a giveaway!!!

 

100 posts - admittedly when I started blogging again things were slooowww but I've got a rhythm now and I love the sense of community that is present amongst quilting and craft bloggers.  It's so lovely to take some quiet time and catch up on what everyone's been doing and of course ogle over all the lovely pictures!  To celebrate I am having a giveaway - details at the bottom of the post.

 

But onto a finish first ...... my Rainbow Swap mini quilt is now finished.  Whilst I have a lot to say about this quilt and the process (when do I not have a lot to say?) for today a few pictures will suffice.  I will just say that I am really happy with how this quilt has turned out and I will be a little bit sad when I have to send it out into the big wide world.
