Olive & Flo Handcraft were another first time trader at Festival of Quilts last year and I am delighted that they were happy to take part in these giveaways.  Primarily an online fabric store, they stock designer fabric from Ruby Star, Andover, Freespirit, Art Gallery, Windham and many others, Aurifil thread, lots of designer patterns and they also run fabric clubs.  Whilst their online shop is open 24/7 a day you can find them at various quilting groups around the country as an in person Pop Up Shop.  If you need to restock your stash or find the perfect fabric for a project the chances are that you will find it at Olive + Flo and it will be a pleasure to buy from them because their customer service and personal touches really are second to none.

Last year was the first time that the team from the Quilter's Den had exhibited at Festival of Quilts and they were really looking forward to going back this year.  

They stock a wide range of fabric, wadding and thread, along with books and other accessories, which are available in the bricks and mortar shop in Warwick or from the online store.  

There is usually a wide range of workshops regularly available which will be up and running again soon.

Rainbow Rose Quilt Along

Ruth from Charly & Ben's Crafty Corner has just started her first ever quilt along over on the Modern Quilters Ireland blog.  It is in its first week, which has been about colour theory and fabric selection.  There's still time to join in the fun so you might want to go and take a look.

 

The first week saw participants pulling their fabric for the Rainbow Rose.  I am just coming in under the wire for the week and so I am able to join the link party - phew!  So apologies for night light in these photos (and the heavens had just opened) and the rather congested work table.  Initially I pulled a rainbow of colours from my shelves ....

 

I kept the names that Ruth wrote in the post in my head - instead of red-orange I said coral and for orange-yellow I said amber etc.  I then discarded those that were not big enough to cut at least one 5" square from.  My self imposed challenge was to pull all the fabric from my stash.  This was quite successful on the red through to yellow-green stage ....

and backwards from the purple-red through to blue stage .....

 

but feels rather awkward progressing from yellow-green through green to green-blue and blue .....

 

You don't need this many fabrics for the rose itself but I thought it might be nice to try to have each piece in a different fabric.  I am not sure if that will work and I will still have to play with this progression but it's a start .... and it's ALL over my work table!!  I think I will have to do the next stage tomorrow when the instructions are released, if only to reclaim a work surface!

A little shopping therapy ...

My husband has taken this week of work and will be with the girls so I have a week in my studio.  I have never had such a long period of dedicated studio time and I can't believe how much I achieved yesterday.  Well, working today consisted of some shopping!  I had a good sort out yesterday trying to match tops with backing and realised that I would have to buy some.  So a trip to The Bramble Patch was in order.

 

I think this cat print is adorable, as does my daughter who it is for .....

 

 



however, it really doesn't go with the top.  Hey ho she's happy with it and that's all that counts right?

 

The next purchase was some backing and sashing fabric for a new quilt ....

 

and a few blocks made up.  Wow blocks are made sooooo much quicker when you have yardage and aren't trying to cobble together all your scraps!

Then three fabrics that will make two backs.  Hmmmmm, see yesterday I was trying to save money and piece together a back for my heart quilt.  There was so much piecing going on that it almost turned into another top.  Compounded with a couple of cutting errors which meant more piecing I decided that it really should be a quilt of its own hence why I needed fabric for two backings!

 

At the weekend I went into my local WHSmiths and was surprised and delighted to see Simply Moderne on the shelf.  It is not the latest edition but that doesn't matter  - I can always keep an eye out for that now I know they stock it.  It's certainly not a cheap magazine but the first copy I bought I read from beginning to end and just loved the article and quilts.  I have not finished reading it yet as I am savouring it!

 

On Sunday I went to the CHSI Stitches trade show at the NEC and came across Karen Lewis Textiles Blueberry Park stand.  I approached a lady on the stand who was free and started chatting away ..... little realising that it was Karen herself!

Check out those awesome bunnies!

 

And the quilt in the corner?  That the lovely pattern by Mary Emmens.  I have seen both this pattern and the Blueberry Park range all over the WWW and IG and have admired from afar.  But to see them in real life was wonderful. x
