A feather ruff anyone?

My finish for this week, in order to link up with Crazy Mom Quilts, was finished yesterday.  Our local Home Ed had their World Book Day meeting today and the children dressed up as a character from a book.

My eldest decided to go as Raven Queen ...

and so required a 'feathered collar/ruff/capelet'!  A rummage through a couple of boxes and I found some scrap silvery and sparkly fabrics which would work perfectly as the feathers.  How to do the collar though?  I had thought that I could mould some pelmet Vilene to shape and then attach fabric to it.  Then I remembered how much shaping there is in collars ........

Time for another rummage .... and I found an old shirt on the shelf and took the collar off it - voila an instant made foundation!

My daughter was very pleased with the end result and I have to say that I was rather taken with it myself .... although, when I did try it on, I realised that it looked a lot better on an 11 year old than her mother!

She didn't get the pink and purple hair but I think being able wear pink and purple eyeshadow (which she had to borrow from a friend's mum!) and pink lipstick more than made up for it!!

As this was all made from scraps I am linking up to Scraptastic Tuesday over at Mrs Sew & Sow

A litte apron .....

is my final finish for Quarter 1 form my 2016FAL list.

This apron was on my list a couple of times last year and I don't know why it didn't get finished!  It really did not take long to attach the neck strap and waist ties.

It is made from the leg of an old pair of jeans.  The pink trims were scraps I had, the button on the pocket was from my daughter's dressing gown when she was 5 and the neck strap and waist ties were vintage grosgrain ribbon that has sat in my blue/green ribbon box for a long time!  The only new thing was the press fasteners and whilst I could have used buttons I thought these gave it a lovely touch.

I drafted the pattern from a similar apron my girls already had and made the pocket by backing a square of denim with the pink fabric, turning it and topstitching close to the edge.

Needless to say, now that my girls are 9 and 11 this will not fit either of them and that's why there's no model in the photos!

I am shortly going to link up all of my finishes for Quarter 1 over at Mrs Sew and Sow be sure to head over and see some of the gorgeous things that have been made so far this year. x

Finish it Up Friday ...

How quickly are the weeks flying by?!!!  I have been really busy but not much to show on the sewing front this week.  A couple of little finishes and some finished articles in a larger project to share this week and to link up with Crazy Mom Quilts.

First up, these were some extra blocks I made for myself whilst I was making my first ever mini quilt for the Schnitzel & Boo swap over on instagram.  I finally had time to quilt and bind them into a mini which is now hanging on my studio wall!

I have not been happy with the binding on either of the minis which is strange because I can usually DO binding!  Will have to have a think about it and maybe practice before the next mini comes along.

This fabric Christmas Postcard is for another swap, this time a UK based Facebook group.

It finished up at 7" x 5" and I have finally got to grips with how to do an edge on an ATC or postcard like this - hooray.  Just in time really because I have just signed up for the next ATC swap over at Very Berry Handmade.  The theme this time is Winter Comforts and luckily the posting deadline is not until the end of January.

And what has taken up most of my time are some costumes - 4 out of the 7 are now finished.  Can anyone guess what they are for?!!

Once these are finished I can finally think about Christmas ........ advent calendars, presents, decorations and two quilts!!!!

The wind was blowing .....

It was rather windy today so not good shots of the finished bunting hanging on the fence or in the trees!

This was another WIP which I listed in Quarter 3 of the Finish-Along over at On the Windy Side.  The front triangles were cut from a large vintage serviette and the backing is vintage Laura Ashley.  When the sun comes out again it will look lovely hanging in the garden!

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED!!

I am so pleased to announce that my new website has been launched.  It's taken me some time to build and it's not all finished yet b...
