A Heart a Day ....

Me, I am a heart girl.  I love them and everywhere I look in our house I see them in some shape or form.  I thought it would be fun to try to post a Heart a Day in February, both from my own home and also if I spy any whilst we are out and about.

Then over the weekend I started thinking further ...... oh what a dangerous thing to do.  I was wondering if anyone would like to make some heart blocks?  In the middle of December I became a local co-coordinator for Project Linus.  I am starting a new area from scratch and have been thinking of ways to get the number of blocks and tops adding up in order to start distributing the quilts.  I know people are very busy with their own commitments but I thought a block every now and then may be doable.  I saw this idea over at Kat & Cat Quilts where Kat states a different theme each month and she was more than happy for me to use it over here in the UK.  The blocks  could then be sent to me and made up into quilt tops which I will then happily quilt before distributing to children.

They could be as simple as this:

or use up scraps ...

or paper pieced ...

or any other design you fancy!

Some guidelines are required - just for ease of piecing at the end of the month (hopefully the doormat will be full of little parcels!!!)

1.  heart design on light background, to help with co-ordinating the top

2.  unfinished block size of 9 1/2", 6 1/2", 5" or 3 1/2"

3.  if the hearts are appliquéd onto a background block they then need to be attached with stitch to ensure they are safe for multiple washing and young children.  This can be hand or machine blanket stitch or raw edge applique.

And that's it!  What do you think?  If you do want to make a block, or two, then please get in touch and I will send you my address.  Many, many thanks. x

    1. Hi Claire I am hoping for a different theme or technique each month. I will post at the beginning of each month with a couple of reminders during the month. So you can either check back here or email me at cutandalter (at) gmail (dot) com and I will let you know that way. Thanks for showing an interest.
